**2019 Garden Tour and Photo Contest**

Welcome to the 2019 Native Garden Tour and Photo Contest webpage

Our 2019 Native Garden Tour was a huge success thanks to our hosts, our wonderful volunteers, and to Mother Nature who provided a perfect day for the event.  Thanks also to the photographers who took time to "focus" on the native landscapes and submit their photos for the native garden tour photo contest.

Our judges, Lucy Keshavarz, Fatima NeJame, and Teri Jabour, are pleased to announce the winners.....

BEST IN SHOW

“Smile for the camera” by Michelle Buchanan.  Michelle’s photo is a close-up of a very small fly (Oestroidea family) on a Scorpion-tail plant (Heliotropium angiospermum). Photo was taken in the Byrd-Rosselot hammock garden in Palm Beach Gardens. Michelle’s exquisite photo reminds us of the interdependent relationships between native flora and fauna and how all creatures including our native flies are important to our ecosystems.

2019 Native Garden Tour Information Archive

From 9 am to 3 pm on Sunday, November 10, participants can view five unique private gardens and two public gardens landscaped with Florida native plants during this self-guided tour: one in North Palm Beach, four in Jupiter, and two in Palm Beach Gardens.  One of the Jupiter gardens is available for online viewing only (see video links on our home page). Docents will be on hand at each garden to answer your questions and provide information and we will be giving a native plant bird and butterfly habitat to each participant while supplies last!  The plant give away will be held at the Forchheimer Garden in Palm Beach Gardens.

Crawford Coastal Garden video tour

The Crawford Coastal Hammock:  A Native Plant Landscape Triumph and Tragedy

After many years of extraordinary effort, the garden of this coastal residence in Jupiter was transformed from a generic gated community mix of lawn and exotics to a remarkable and diverse native coastal landscape.  We felt so fortunate that the architect behind this native gem was enthusiastic about sharing his creation with us on the 2019 native garden tour.  Unfortunately, this was not to be.   Very close to our tour date, due to extinuating circumstances, the property unexpectedly changed hands and the new owner had other plans.  We are sad to inform you that in the very near future, the entire property is to be bulldozed and will no doubt revert to a generic lawnscape. (update: the house and garden are gone.  Scroll down for "after" photo.)
We would like to thank Sam Crawford for providing us with a video tour of his garden and, with a heavy sigh, bid farewell to a habitat that has all but disappeared in this part of Florida.
